Vietnam's government has set a time frame for the introduction of vehicle emissions rules based on EU standards. Only newly manufactured, assembled or imported motor vehicles will be required to comply with the tightened emission limits which will come into effect in 2017, reports Vietnam News Agency.

A variety of factors are thought to be behind Toyota's announcement that it will manufacture key components for its hybrid cars in China. Hiroyoshi Yoshiki, a senior Japan-based Toyota executive, said at an auto conference in Tianjin recently that the company is considering a move to shift to China production of some of the key components for hybrid and other heavily electrified cars.

While China's cabinet mulls over what it can do next to boost its flagging electric vehicle market, short of legislating that people buy them, another environmental green vehicle project is meeting with better success. According to official data, almost 25,000 ageing vehicles were scrapped or sold to buyers outside of Beijing by the end of August. It was an 86 percent increase on the average for the previous seven months according to the China Beijing Environment Exchange.

More than 200 clean tech public transport vehicles were put into service in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, at the weekend. The new energy vehicle fleet are composed of 30 electric buses, 170 hybrid buses and 27 electric taxis, according to Xhinua.
