Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB) has entered into a strategic collaboration with General Electric (GE) to jointly design new manufacturing solutions to gain energy efficiency and water savings in its current and 'greenfield' facilities in China.

The global brewing giant has laid out its 2012 objectives to cut down the water-to-beer ratio to 3.5, reduce energy usage significantly and decrease CO2 output and use biogas and natural gas.

GE intends to utilize its resources aligned to the food and beverage industry in China to help AB exceed its 2012 objectives.

AB and GE engineering resources will jointly establish an 'Innovation Team' to understand the brewing company's processes and challenges.

The team will then define clear solutions that can be implemented and piloted in select AB locations. The solutions will then be deployed in AB plants across China, if the pilot turns out to be successful.

The partnership will initially focus on designing and implementing key solutions, including: Energy management solutions; Combined heat and power solutions; and Waste-to-value solutions.
