Home furnishings giant IKEA is to partner with Chinese cleantech group Hanergy to install photovoltaic (PV) panels on IKEA-owned buildings across China, according to the company.
Once complete, the panels are expected to provide ten to 15 percent of all electricity needed to run the stores and 100 percent of the power demand from IKEA distribution centers in the country.
This will potentially save 6,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and there are plans to extend the initiative to the company’s suppliers in China.
The panels will be manufactured and installed by Hanergy over the next three years.
