May 08, 2012

A three- day Water Festival was held in Nepal’s capital of Kathmandu over the weekend aimed at increasing awareness among the public for sustainable use of water.

Organized by Direction Nepal, the festival was the first of its kind in Nepal to deliver the consideration that should be made in order to maintain a wise consumption of water.

Talking to Xinhua, Director of Direction Nepal Pashupati KC said that the event not only provides information about the use of water, but also exhibit new technological opportunities that can be made available in Nepal for good use of water. In the changing global context, water has become a key issue for survival, he said.

Though Nepal is the world’s second richest country in water resources after Brazil and has a large number of river basins and fresh water flowing, much of the population lacks pure drinking water and the situation has worsened in recent years due to climate change and industrial or agricultural pollution.
