Palau international airport goes solar
Date:
January 31, 2012 With funding from Japan's Official Development Assistance agency the Pacific island state of Palau, 550 miles east of the Philippines, has completed its largest solar power project to date and the first to be grid-connected.
As mecca suba diving tourist, Palau gets more than its fair share of air traffic and of 226.8-kW solar PV panels from Kyocera have now been intalled on top of shading stuctures in the intenational airport car park. Since the country gets hit by typhoons on a regular basis the solar modules have been reinforced with extra support bars.
The new system is expected to produce an annual power output of 250-MWh.
