China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN) is planning to invest 4.5 billion yuan (USD731 million) in an offshore wind farm adjacent to one of the islands of Pingtan Country, off the coast of Fujian Province. The company says, rather optimistically, that it hopes to start project construction next year.
The first reactor at the Ningde Nuclear Power Station in China’s Fujian Province became operational on Thursday. The 1.09-GW CPR-1000 reactor, which is largely domestically produced, is the first of four that will be running at Ningde by 2015.
According to a report by China’s National Development and Reform Commission presented to the ongoing annual parliamentary session, the country will add another 3.24-GW, of nuclear power this year, representing a 20 percent increase in capacity.
China Guangdong Nuclear (CGN) has signed an order with Spain’s Gamesa to supply another 49-MW of turbines for a new wind farm in China’s eastern Shandong province.
China Development Bank, which has emerged as the primary lender to China’s clean energy programs, has agreed to provide 30 billion yuan (USD4.8 billion) of funding to China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co over the next three years to develop wind power projects at home and abroad.
A subsidiary of Chinese renewables manufacturer Ming Yang Wind Power Group has signed a strategic co-operation agreement with China Guangdong Nuclear Power (CGNP) to develop both solar and offshore wind projects in addition to launching a renewable energy fund, according to Chinese media reports.
India’s Suzlon Group, the world's fifth largest wind turbine manufacturer, has signed a global strategic partnership with CGN Energy — a wholly owned subsidiary of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGNWE) — to develop 800-MW of domestic and international projects over the next three years.

A new report from solar industry analyst firm Solarbuzz says non-residential solar photovoltaic (PV) projects greater that 50-kW peak that are installed, being installed or under development in China rose to 16-GW in October – a 2-GW jump on the estimated total at the end of September. According to the latest Solarbuzz China Deal Tracker report 195 projects  totaling over 1.8-GW peak will have been installed in China within 2011, bringing the country's solar PV generating capacity close to that of US by the end of this year.
Several well-known companies in China's nuclear power sector gathered recently in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region to sign a raft of large-scale energy project contracts.

Hong Kong-based utility CLP Holdings has followed through on an MOU signed last year with China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding and bought a 17 percent stake in the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station, which is currently under construction.
