Small Hydro

Japan is giving further support to renewable energy in the Philippines. While no dollar figures have been given for the new investment by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), it is extending a grant to for two separate hydropower systems for the provinces of Ifugao and Isabela.
Singapore-based Armstrong Asset Management, a newly-established independent clean energy asset manager, is creating a USD150 million fund to invest in renewable-power projects in Southeast Asia as countries in the region offer incentives to expand the industry.

Local government officials are expressing concern over the continued development of small hydropower stations in a central China nature reserve. While the projects were initially encouraged as a way of defending the forest, there are now concerns that other elements of the ecosystem are being damaged.

South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd, one of the world's leading carbon offsetting companies, has announced in a press statement the first-ever issuance of carbon credits in Southeast Asia developed under the Social Carbon standard.
The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a self-funding US government agency, is putting USD198 million into two clean energy private equity funds with the investment weighted toward India.
