US solar in Indian projects

The United States is using climate fast-start financing to ruin the Indian domestic solar photo-voltaic (PV) manufacturing industry, according to Indian NGO, the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), in a statement posted on its website. CSE researchers claims 80 percent of the Indian solar PV manufacturing capacity is in a state of forced closure and debt restructuring with no orders coming to them, while the US manufacturers are getting orders from Indian solar power developers.

The United States Commerce Department on Tuesday announced that it would impose duties ranging from 2.9 to 4.73 percent on imports of Chinese solar panels; far lower than hoped for but nevertheless seen as a victory for the American solar industry. Energy analysts had expected Chinese imports of solar panels to be hit with preliminary duties of 20 percent to 30 percent and the news sent shares in Chinese solar companies soaring on Wall Street.

A new industry body claiming to represent US solar cell and panel manufacturers has filed complaints with the US Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission, about China's support for its solar industry. The petitions represent one of the largest China-related dumping and countervailing duty cases filed to date and the largest case filed in the renewable-energy industry.
The Export-Import Bank of Korea has announced that it will boost financial support for overseas green energy projects.

China Gezhouba Group Corp, the parent of the Three Gorges Dam builder, plans to invest USD1 billion to build a hydroelectric power plant on the Karama River in the remote reaches Indonesia's West Sulawesi province.
China Datang Renewable Power Co and Tianwei Baobian Electric Co have formed a joint venture with Australia's CBD Energy to build A$6 billion (USD6.27 billion) worth of wind and solar farms in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.
